Work with Me
I originally wrote this for new colleagues, but it's useful for anyone I work with. Think of it as a quick cheat sheet on how I operate.
⏰ Where & When
I’m based in Dublin, Ireland (sometimes Rome, Italy). I’m a night owl, so my working day usually runs 11–12 to 19–20 GMT. I don’t mind meetings late in the day, which is especially useful for US folks.
You might also catch me online at weird hours, usually at night. I like the flexibility to work when it suits me, but I don’t expect anyone else to do the same. As long as there’s a good 4–5 hour overlap with the team, I think people should work whenever they’re at their best.
If you’re working with me at HubSpot: those times are reflected in my Google Calendar working hours, so please don’t book anything outside those without a heads up. I’ll do the same for you. I wrote about why I think that matters.
✍️ Communication
I’m a fan of public channels for anything that isn’t sensitive. More people benefit from seeing the discussion, even if they’re just lurking. For DMs, I tend to fire off questions as soon as they pop into my head, which can be at odd hours. Every one of those comes with an implicit: “no rush, answer when you’re around.”
I’d suggest snoozing your notifications outside working hours. If that’s not your thing, just tell me and I’ll schedule messages for normal hours instead. Same goes the other way: message me whenever, even if I look offline. I’ll get back to you when I’m up. Don’t expect early morning replies though.
Always happy to jump on a quick call if I’m free. If there’s a lot of context, send me any materials beforehand so I can come prepared.
💬 Feedback
I like to receive feedback directly and as soon as something happens, and I tend to give it the same way. I’m a big believer in Radical Candor: care personally, challenge directly. If something is off, I’d rather hear it now than in a quarterly review.
🌴 Time Off
When I’m on vacation, I’m off. No emails, no messages. For genuine emergencies I can be reached by phone, but the bar for “genuine emergency” is high.
🇮🇹 Language
English is not my first language (Italian is). If I’m not making sense, just ask me to clarify. I can try Spanish or French but it will likely only make things worse.
😄 Beyond Work
I don’t take myself too seriously. Outside of work you’ll find me raiding in World of Warcraft, drafting Magic: The Gathering decks, hanging out with my cats, or going down weird YouTube rabbit holes. I know way more than I should about vacuum cleaners and hardwood flooring installation. Hit me up about any of the above.
